Richard Wright of Pink Floyd Dies |

National Music News
|
The founding member was 65.
Monday, September 15, 2008
Pink Floyd rocker Richard Wright has died at the age of 65, after a short battle with cancer.
The keyboardist was a founder member of the hugely successful band, along with former school friends Roger Waters and Nick Mason.
He helped write a number of the group's hit albums including Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, and Wish You Were Here before quitting in 1981 following a bust-up with Waters.
After an unsuccessful attempt at a solo career, Wright rejoined Pink Floyd six years later, after Waters had left, and he continued to perform and record with Mason and new frontman David Gilmour.
Wright reunited with Waters onstage in 2005 when the group put aside its differences to perform at the Live 8 charity concert in London - but dismissed suggestions the band may reform for a money-spinning tour.
Confirming his death on Monday, Wright's spokesperson tells Gigwise.com, "The family of Richard Wright, founder member of Pink Floyd, announce with great sadness, that Richard died today after a short struggle with cancer.
"The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this difficult time."
It is not known what form of cancer Wright suffered.
He is survived by his third wife Millie, their son Ben, and his two children from his marriage to first wife Juliette Gale.
